I know that when I was overweight I worried about how I looked; I stressed about what to wear and I was concerned about what people thought of me.
But my biggest worry was my health and reading articles this week in the press about the effects of processed foods has made me really grateful that I changed my eating habits.
So this article is worth a read
Eating factory-made food including cornflakes, pizza and chocolate bars every day increases the risk of cancer by a quarter, the first study of its kind suggests.
Additives in ready meals, packaged snacks and shop-bought cakes may combine to trigger the disease, researchers warned last night.
Cancer caused by highly processed food would be over and above the harmful effects of the sugar and fat it contains, scientists fear.
The West’s increasing taste for packaged food on the go could fuel a further rise in cancer in the future, they say.
French researchers studied the diets of 105,000 people, of whom 2,228 developed cancer over an eight-year period. The quarter who ate the most “ultra-processed” food were 23 per cent more likely to get any type of cancer than the quarter who ate the least, researchers report in The BMJ.
Now I know that advice about what to eat never stops but if you want to know about eating healthily my Weight Away Plans can help and you will lose some weight as well as protecting your health .
I know that sometimes people are dubious about their BMI and either can’t work it out or think that their BMI is not that important.
So what about your waist measurement?
This can be an easy way to see if you are at risk of getting Type 2 Diabetes or heart disease because if you waist measure is more than half of your height then you could be carrying visceral fat that attaches to your organs. This is very damaging to your health
So if you are 5ft 6 inches your waist should not be more than 33 inches
Or if you are 6ft tall not more than 36 inches
If you are more familiar with metric measurement then this would be
167.5cm and 64 cm
or 182.2cm and 91 cm
I know that when I mention this men they often say well I am around 6ft but I only wear 36 inch waist trousers so I should be okay but they forget that often the waist of their trousers is sitting below a much bigger tummy. So when they know where the waist measurement should be taken they often have a shock. So put the tape measure around your waist just below your belly button and check out yours!

Measure Your Waist
One of the easiest ways to know if you are carrying too much fat and are at risk of ill health is to measure your waist.
This is so much easier than calculating your BMI as all you have do is to check your height and divide by 2. You then measure your waist and if it is less than half of your height then you are fine, but if it is greater then it indicates that you are carrying too much fat.
I am only 5ft 2 ins so the most my waist should be is 31 inches. It you are working in metric this is around 157.5 cms and a waist of about 78-79 cms. Mine is 30 so fine!
Why should your waist measurement worry you-well it is indication that you are probably carrying fat around your organs meaning that they will not function as well. This puts you at risk of heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes and of having a stroke.
So get out the tape measure and check your waist. If you don’t have a tape use a piece of string to check your height then fold in half and try it round your waist. If it goes round you are fine, if not you need to think about losing some weight.
If you are a man don’t just use your trouser size you need to measure the widest part of your waist which often is above your waistband!
I would be delighted to help you and I know that one of my latest client lost 2 inches from their waist in only 4 weeks so you have nothing to lose but weight.
